Mr. Joe and Bernard on Salvation/Evangelism
by Dave Weiss
Mr. Joe and Bernard are a regular feature in our church's service and they are loved by adults and children alike. Each week they give a little skit that points the way to the message. I have decided to share them with the A.M.O.K web site. You will need to adapt them to your church by filling in the appropriate names, etc. Mr. Joe is older and wiser. He is a Christian, who can be silly but he is firmly rooted in His faith. Bernard is younger, preteen, etc. He has a bit of an attitude, but a good heart he is just about to give his heart ot Jesus. I hope you have as much fun with these as we do.
Bernard: Hi Mr. Joe what cha doinı?
Mr. Joe: Shhh, be very very quiet, Iım on a mission from God.
Bernard: (as loud as before) A mission from God, whatıs that?
Mr. Joe: Shhhhhhh, Theyıll hear you Iım on a mission from God. That means that God has something for me to do.
Bernard: (As loud as before) What does he want you to do?
Mr Joe: Shhhhh, he wants me to tell people my story.
Bernard: (Whispering) What story?
Mr. Joe: the story of what Jesus has done for me.
Bernard: (Whispering) Mr. Joe...
Mr. Joe: Yes Bernard?
Bernard:(shouting) Why do you want to keep that quiet???
Mr. Joe: Bernard thatıs a very good point. Ladies and gentlemen, when I was a younger puppet, I hung on a rack at J.O.Y. bookstore day after day after day wishing someone would take me home. I was lonely and I had no joy in my little foam rubber heart. Day after day I would look at all the books about Jesus and wonder what it was all about. Then one day I heard someone talking about praying to asking Jesus to come into his heart. I started to wonder what that meant, but I knew my heart was empty so I asked Jesus if heıd like to come into my heart, and He did. I felt a lot of joy but I was still lonely and that rack was hard on my back.
Bernard: (Rubbing His back) I know what you mean.
Mr. Joe: I wondered if God could help me so I asked him and I told him that if he could use a little puppet like me to tell other people about him that I would. I asked him to give me a home and a nice church where I could serve Him and He did. A few days later Pastor Dave came into the store and picked me up. He put me in a basket and carried me around and I was getting real hopeful. He kept saying he wasnıt sure if he could use me but I kept praying, the next thing I knew, they were putting me in a bag and taking me home. I had a home, I had a family and I had a church and Pastor Dave started to use me to tell the kids about Jesus. God had answered my prayer.
Bernard: Wow thatıs a really cool story. Mr. Joe...
Mr. Joe: Yes Bernard.
Bernard: Something like that happened to me too.
Mr. Joe: It did???
Bernard: Yes, I was hanging on a rack too, and I was lonely and scared and then one day Pastor Dave came and got me too. But I didnıt pray. They just came and got me and started to bring me to church with Chris. It sure is nice to have a family and a church. but Mr. Joe.
Mr. Joe: Yes Bernard...
Bernard: I see what Jesus has done in your life and...
Mr. Joe: What is it Bernard?
Bernard: Do you think He would come and live in my heart too.
Mr. Joe: Do you believe in Him?
Bernard: Itıs kind of hard not too after hearing what he did for you and me. Would you help me ask Him into my heart?
Mr. Joe: I sure will, Pray with me. Dear God, I know I donıt always do the right thing.
Bernard: Dear God, I know I donıt always do the right thing.
Mr. Joe: But I want to, will you help me
Bernard: But I want to, will you help me
Mr. Joe: and forgive me.
Bernard:and forgive me.
Mr. Joe: Jesus, I believe in you
Bernard:Jesus, I believe in you
Mr. Joe: Please come into my heart and save me
Bernard:Please come into my heart and save me
Mr. Joe: In Jesus name, Amen
Bernard: In Jesus name, Amen
Mr. Joe: Welcome to the Family of God Bernard. How do you feel?
Bernard: I feel great. I want to tell everybody about Jesus.
Mr. Joe: Thatıs the whole idea.
