Caterpillar Kid's Club
For those of you who don't know it, in addition to all the arts ministry stuff, I am also a bivocational pastor of a new church plant in Reading Pennsylvania called New Creation Fellowship. I refer to it as the church run A.M.O.K. in that a lot of the things that I use on this site are born as a result of a need in that ministry. This article is no exception.
Reaching the community
One of the most difficult things about church planting is the actual act of growing the church and bringing oin new families. I know that the real work of this is done by the Hoily Spirit and yet I also believe that God calls us to use our gifts and talents to "contribute" to the cause (for lack of a better word). The area we minister in has a lot of families with young children. We need a strong children's ministry to reach them.
What Will Stand Out?
I feel we need something new and unique to reach the community but to figure out what it is is a full time job. Then one day I was online and came upon Bruce Barry's Wacky World site and it hit me, that is what we can do. I mean I spent years designing stage sets for local productions and other clients, why can't I do the same thing for my church. Out of this the Caterpillar Kids Club was born.
What is Caterpillar Kids Club?
It's a learning environment for children. Using drama/puppets/games, etc, we will communicate the message and then with the help of loving people called table helpers we will do personal small group teaching based on what the students have just seen. Youth will help with the drama, puppets, games part of the teaching as part of our youth ministry. We are in the early planning stages. Here are the rough designs we will use for the room.
